Shadow Groudon has arrived in Pokemon GO and you can defeat Giovanni's new team to get a chance at capturing it. This event coincides with the new Team Rocket research It's a Rocket World, which has five sets of tasks for you to complete.
Shadow Groudon is one of the best Pokemon GO attackers you can have in your party, and Shadow Groudon won't be around forever: It's a Rocket World ends on June 1st, 2024!
Shadow Pokemon benefit from a 20%+ Damage bonus, which makes them the top attackers in Pokemon GO.
Event Bonus
There are several event bonuses included for the Protect the world from Team Rocket event:
- You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration. (March 26th-March 31st 2024).
- Team GO Rocket Grunts will be appearing more often
- NEW: Shadow Pidgey
- NEW: Shadow Darumaka
- NEW: Shadow Gothita
- NEW: Shadow Solosis
Giovanni's Team for Shadow Groudon Battle
Once you unlock the Super Rocket Radar, you can challenge Giovanni. Upon defeating him, you'll get an encounter with Shadow Groudon.

Giovanni can also use Kingdra and Rhyperior as his second Pokemon when battling.
Giovanni Battle Guide
This battle is similar to the Shadow Kyogre fight. Here are some tips if you're new to taking down Team Rocket:
- Giovanni has two shields. You want to have a Pokemon in your squad that can easily use up his shields with some charged moves that are quickly activated. For example, using Guzzlord with Dragon Claw will allow you to wipe out both his shields in super quick time.
- Take advantage of the time delay with swapping Pokemon in and out of battle. There is a small delay to your opponent when you make a switch with your Pokemon, allowing you to get in a few extra hits. You can swap a Pokemon every 30 seconds (check this).
- Shadow Groudon can be countered by Shadow Kyogre, so if you caught Shadow Kyogre from the previous research you're in luck. Also, if you benefitted from the recent Primal Kyogre event, you can add that Pokemon to your party instead. Other good counters are Mega Blastoise, Mega Sceptile, Shadow Gyarados, Zarude.
- You can challenge Giovanni as many times as you like once you locate him. You'll just have to make sure you have plenty of Revives and Potions to continue battling.
