Pokemon Go Season Of Legends Special Research will allow players to complete special tasks in order to learn new discoveries about the legendary Pokemon: Therian Forme Tornadus, Therian Forme Thundurus, and Therian Forme Landorus.

These Pokemon were originally from generation V (Pokemon Black and White). Their Therian Forme is a special version of the Pokemon (similar to Mega Evolved Pokemon).

Whilst the Special Research Update Notes don't clarify whether you will be able to capture these legendary Pokemon, they do mention:

Complete this Special Research to earn Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus Candy as well as other rewards.

The Season Of Legends update is just around the corner and expected to begin on Monday, March 1, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. to Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Many new updates are planned, including new Pokemon spawns, free Remote Raid Passes, new Raid Pokemon including new Mega-Evolve versions and various other improvements.

The season of Legends special research is now live. You will need to complete up to 5 sets of tasks in order to complete this special research.

Season Of Legends 1/5

• Catch 10 Rock-type Pokemon (x10 Pokeball)
• Make 5 Great Throws (x10 Great Ball)
• Transfer 10 Pokemon (x10 Pinap Berry)

Rewards: 500 Stardust, 1500 XP, Pokemon Appears (Kabuto)

Season Of Legends 2/5

• Catch 10 Ground-type Pokemon (x10 Hyper Potion)
• Catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost (x1 Mossy Lure Module)
• Take a snapshot of Landorus (x10 Landorus Candy)

Rewards: 500 Stardust, 2000 XP, Pokemon Appears (Drilnur)

Landorus is a Legendary Pokemon that is currently in the Raid rotation. You will need to have captured it and taken a snapshot using your Camera item to complete that task.

Season Of Legends 3/4

• Catch 10 Flying-type Pokemon (x5 Max Revive)
• Catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost (x1 Fast TM)
• Take a snapshot of Tornadus (x10 Tornadus Candy)

Rewards: 500 Stardust, 2000 XP, Pokemon Appears ()

Tornadus is a Legendary Pokemon that is currently in the Raid rotation. You will need to have captured it and taken a snapshot using your Camera item to complete that task.

• Catch 10 Electric-type Pokemon (x10 Ultra Ball)
• Catch 5 Pokemon with Weather Boost (x1 Charged TM)
• Take a snapshop of Thundurus (x10 Thundurus Candy)

Rewards: x500 Stardust, 2000 XP, Pokemon Appears (Joltik)

Rewards: 5000 XP, Unova Stone, Pokemon Appears (Munna)

Overall, probably not the most exciting Special Research Pokemon Go has offered. Munna is a faily common Pokemon that does pop-up from time to time (such as Valentines Day). The XP might be nice and for the most part, the challenges are not that difficult, especially if you were going to catch all three Legendary Pokemon.
