Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution Overview - Release Date, Card Previews and products!

A new Pokemon TCG series is set to start this Autumn with the release of Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution set!

It marks the start of a new series of sets to be released for the Pokemon TCG, featuring Mega Evolution Pokemon last seen in the Sun and Moon Series!

With the beginning of a new Mega Evolution series, it means the end of the Scarlet and Violet series! There were a total of 16 different sets released for the Scarlet and Violet series, starting all the way back in March 2023!

Mega Evolution Release Date

Mega Evolution will release worldwide on September 26th, 2025.

Pre-release events will commence on September 13th 2025, where players will be able to participate in tournaments featuring Mega Evolution cards before the official release.

The set will also be available to play on September 25th via the Pokemon TCG Live App.

What's new in Mega Evolution?

Mega Evolution will be the first set released under the new Pokemon TCG Mega Evolution Series! The series is set to bring back Mega Evolution Pokemon, last seen in the Sun and Moon series, such as Unified Minds Set.

We know that the following Mega Evolution Pokemon will be available:

  • Mega Lucario ex
  • Mega Gardevoir ex
  • Mega Venusaur ex
  • Mega Latias ex

A recap of Mega Evolution Pokemon mechanics:

Though powerful and equipped with increased HP and attack damage compared to regular Pokémon ex, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex will give up three Prize cards when Knocked Out. In addition, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex appear as Basic Pokémon, Stage 1 Pokémon or Stage 2 Pokémon and do not require an extra Evolution step (for example, Mega Lucario ex evolves from Riolu, rather than from Lucario).

Ultra Rare cards will be getting an update in this series, introducing new Pokemon Tools, items and Stadiums are Ultra Rare cards. Ultra Rare Mega Evolution Pokemon will also have a brand new art style not seen before.

Noteworthy cards from the expansion include:

  • 10 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex
  • 22 illustration rare Pokémon
  • 22 ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Trainer cards
  • 10 special illustration rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Supporter cards

Pokemon TCG also clarified that Booster Packs for Mega Evolution will continue to include Code Cards and Energy Cards.
