MapleStory Worlds Global is finally being released and will have a soft launch this year. The platform allows players to create their own MapleStory games, using MapleStory assets, for free!
The release date for MapleStory Worlds Global is set for October 16th 2024. It is going to be a "soft launch", where players will be limited in access and availability.
Currently, the release is only for North America and Canada. There is no word when Europe or other regions will be able to access the game, but we assume that once the soft launch phase is over, other regions will be invited to play.
You can currently signup for the MapleStory Worlds newsletter to be entered into a competition to win some prizes. You should also join the MapleStory Worlds Discord to get the latest updates on the platform.
MapleStory Worlds has been released in South Korea for over 2 years now and has seen great success in recreating MapleStory Classic / Old School MapleStory servers.
MapleLand
Maple Lands is a game in MapleStory Worlds that has recreated the entire old-school experience of MapleStory, complete with the four original jobs before the Big Bang patch.
It has been out for just over a year, and currently has 3rd Job and released content up to Aqua Road.
Mapleland is a faithful recreation and also has:
- 3rd Job Advancement for Warrior, Mages, Thiefs and Bowman
- Kerning Party Quest
- Ludibrium Party Quest
- Zakum
- original 1x rates
Mapleland also has its own custom events in-game, allowing players to earn EXP coupons and more.
Check out the MapleStory Worlds twitch channel to see it being streamed.
How does MapleStory Worlds work
The MapleStory Worlds platform allows developers to create games and have other players play them. It is completely free to create your own game and players can also play for free.
The game uses a developer tool that utilizes LUA script language and comes with features for handling databases, server management and more. If you're interested in creating your own MapleStory World game, you can take a look at the documentation.
There are some limitations to MapleStory Worlds:
- Each channel can hold between 60-100 players only.
- There are multiple channels (sometimes in the hundreds!) for popular games
- Loading times are not as instant as playing the original client
- MAC Support is planned later
Developers can earn money by adding monetization to their game, allowing players to buy coins to spend on items/cosmetics for their game. The choice to monetize a MapleStory World is up to the developer.
