Ride or Die is a special MapleStory Boss event that is exclusive to MapleStory GMS, allowing players to take on bosses with unique mechanics and earn rewards for how well they do.

Ride or Die was released for patch V.255 Ride Or Die and was part of the Winter Update for MapleStory GMS. The event was previewed at Maple Fest 2024 and is part of the new GMS direction for making MapleStory more fun for western audiences.

Ride or Die is the first piece of exclusive GMS content for many years!

Ride or Die Boss System

To start Ride or Die, you need to select the Ride or Die quest from the event icon on the main menu: [Ride or Die] Mysterious Contact.

After a short cutscene Mysterious Cave map. Speak to Althea's Hologram to get started.

You can now challenge up to 6 bosses per week. The following bosses are available in Ride or Die:

• Zakum
• Horntail
• Papulatus
• Darknell
• Guardian Angel Slime
• Chaos Vellum

They come in three difficulties:

• Code B (Easy)
• Code A (Normal)
• Code S (Hard)

Code S is the strongest difficulty and should only be attempted by end-game players.

NOTE: You can change the boss difficulty by talking to Althea Hologram and selecting the option to change difficulty.

There is a Practice Mode option that allows you to try out any fight with selected buffs as many times as you like. You won't get any rewards from defeating bosses in Practice Mode, but it will allow you to figure out if you're strong enough to defeat the boss.

You have a total of 20 Lives that resets once per week.

You can also set "Challenges" for each boss you face. There are a total of 24 unique challenges that can be applied to boss battles; these challenges are unique mechanics that can make a boss battle tougher. You can select up to a total of 20 challenges to be applied, which will be randomly selected from the total pool.

Adding more challenges to bosses will increase your Weekly Score.

Once you defeat a boss, you'll gain points for doing so. The total score at the end of the week is combining all the bosses you defeated + how many lives you have left remaining.

At the end of the week, you'll be able to claim your rewards in the form of Inspector Boxes and Kazax's Energy Fragment. The better your weekly score, the better the prizes you get.

Althea's Support

During boss battles in Ride or Die, you can call upon Althea's Support skill.

This skill charges over time, but also if you interact with the blue spheres that randomly spawn across the map.

Once charged, you can activate the support skill manually or automatically. The skill will remove enemies and disruptions caused by Kazax's, whilst also providing a small buff.

To activate it manually, you need to press the key assigned to your Interact / Harvest key slot (spacebar on default).

The buffs can include:

• Reducing Cooldown
• Decrease damage taken
• Increase Attack Speed
• Reduce Status Effects

Ride or Die Rewards

At the end of each week, your weekly score is calculated and you'll be given your rewards. The score is based on the total amount of bosses you cleared + any remaining lives you have left.

Bosses defeated on higher difficulty settings (Code A and Code S) will give more points, as well as the more challenges you add.

You will get one Inspector Box based on your total weekly score and also a handful of Kazax's Energy Fragments.

You can double click on the Kazax's Energy Fragments to get random rewards, including the special Chains of Resentment spawn token (only available in Regular Worlds).

Below you can see all the items you can get from Inspector Boxes. The quantity of each item increases the higher the level the box is.

Double click on Kazax's Energy Fragments to have a chance of obtaining one of the following items:

Some of these items are brand new to GMS. Here is what they do:

• Chains of Resentment Coupon - Gives a Chains of Resentment Totem that lasts 30 days. Increases the spawn rate of monsters on the map.
• Item Drop Rate Increase Potion - Increases drop rate for 5 minutes. +200% on Reboot worlds, +50% on Regular worlds.
• Mapae Nodestone - Gives a random special node: (+20% Item Drop Rate, +20% Meso Drop Rate, +10% EXP Rate, +40% Boss Damage, +40% Ignore Defense)

You can also earn weekly participation rewards, even if you don't defeat all the bosses:

• Week 2: Ride or Die System Skin Coupon
• Week 4: Ride or Die Mysterious Cave Background Coupon
• Week 6: Inspector Outfit Set Coupon
• Week 8: Ride or Die Kazax's Altar Background Coupon
• Week 10: Inspector Weapon Coupon + Ride or Die Legion Block (+35 Weapon att/Magic att)

Ride or Die Coin Shops

There are two new coin shops available for the Ride or Die event. They take Silver Inspector Coins and Gold Inspector Coins, both of which can be earned from weekly rewards during the Ride or Die event.
