A new preview of MapleStory Classic has been released by Nexon GMS to showcase new skill changes being made to the original four MapleStory classes!
The playtest is a private event being held in Nexon GMS HQ where players are invited to try out the new MapleStory Classic world, which is still in-development.
This preview showed more changes being made to the original version of MapleStory Classic, including updated skill changes, modern MapleStory quality of life additions and more!
MapleStory Classic is set to be a brand new version of MapleStory that is based off the original old-school MapleStory before the Big Bang update.
MapleStory Classic Skill Changes
During the new playtest video, we manage to spot some interesting changes made to skills that were not present in the original MapleStory version.Â
The most drastic changes that we saw were changes to both Cleric (second job) and Fire / Poison Wizard (second job).
Cleric's Holy Arrow now appears to shoot three arrows at once, hitting mobs for three lines of damage. We do not see the Holy Arrow hit multiple mobs.
We also see Fire / Poison Wizard use their Fire Arrow skill, which also appears to shoot three arrows (but the video does not show it hitting mobs).
In the original version, Cleric's Holy Arrow would only hit one mob, and you wouldn't be able to move whilst using the skill. Holy Arrow was rarely used as a skill in second job as Cleric's mostly relied on using their multi-mob hitting Heal skill.
The same goes for Fire / Poison Wizard's Fire Arrow, although this skill was their main attacking skill. If the skill works similarly to the new Holy Arrow, this will be a huge buff to F / P Mages who originally struggled through second-job with their single-target attack.
We get a look at all the skills for 1st job Thieves (Rogues), which shows you can put a total of 15 points into Keen Eyes, whereas in the original MapleStory it had a max level of 8!
Bandit's second job skill Savage Blow also appears to have a bigger range than before, as well as the ability to move whilst casting the skill.
Other Changes
There were also some new changes we spotted from the previous playtest back in September.
Every class seems to now get a base Critical Chance rate of 5%. This was not added until after the Big Bang patch, but it appears to now be available in Classic world.
We also saw an updated UI for adding AP, with the option to add a specific number of AP instead of just one at a time. There is also the option to add AP into HP and MP, which could mean the ability to HP Wash (something that many Maplers fear!).
Mob HP seems to not be the same as the original version either; a Snail mob (has 8 HP originally) is seen tanking over 50 HP!
There were a few other things that we saw, such as a Bandit having two Haste buffs and one having Magic Guard, but this we assume is due to the fact that players can Job Change directly in the test via an NPC, causing all sorts of strange phenomenon.
New Showcase
We got our first look at the MapleStory login screen, which is an expanded version of the original MapleStory login screen. We didn't get a view of the Dice Roll on character creation yet, but did see you can change your hair color to Purple, which wasn't in the original version.
It looks like Party leaders can also assign Loot Priority when creating a party, something which appears to come directly from Modern MapleStory.
KPQ was showed off again, confirming that if you die in the Party Quest you'll have to restart it in order to complete the last stage. We also potentially saw two parties entering KPQ from the same channel, hopefully confirming you won't need to CC to find a free channel!
It's now just a few weeks away from MapleCon (coming October 25th) where people attending will be able to playtest MapleStory Classic themselves. We also hope to get a bunch of news and information regarding the status of the game, maybe even a release date!
